1915 $2.50 Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle – CACG MS64 – Classic Pre-33 Gold
Offered here is a beautiful 1915 Indian Head $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagle, graded MS64 by CAC Grading. This popular pre-1933 gold issue features one of the most distinctive and innovative designs in all of U.S. coinage.
The 1915 issue was struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mintmark) and is part of the iconic Indian Head Quarter Eagle series designed by Bela Lyon Pratt. Unlike traditional coin designs, this series features an incuse (sunken) design, where the devices are recessed below the surface—making it unique among U.S. coins and highly sought after by collectors.
Graded MS64, this example offers strong original luster with attractive golden color and excellent overall eye appeal. The surfaces are well-preserved for the grade, with only minor contact marks visible under close inspection. The strike is sharp, with clear detail throughout the incuse design, including the Native American portrait and the reverse eagle.
The obverse features a detailed Native American profile wearing a full feather headdress, while the reverse displays a standing eagle perched on a bundle of arrows with an olive branch. The coin is composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, with an actual gold weight of approximately 0.1209 troy ounces.
Indian Head Quarter Eagles remain a favorite among collectors due to their unique design, historical significance, and strong demand in higher grades. The MS64 level offers an excellent balance of quality and value, sitting just below the Gem category.
CACG certification provides added assurance of quality and originality, making this a strong addition to any pre-1933 gold collection.
