The 1907 Double Eagle Liberty Head is a $20 gold coin featuring the classic design by James B. Longacre. The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with "LIBERTY," and the reverse showcases a heraldic eagle, symbolizing strength and freedom.
Graded NGC MS-61, this coin is in Mint State condition, meaning it has not been heavily circulated but may show minor imperfections such as light contact marks or scratches, typical for coins in this grade. MS-61 coins still retain much of their original luster but have some surface imperfections that prevent them from achieving a higher grade.
The 1907 Double Eagle is historically significant because it was one of the final years that the Liberty Head design was used before being replaced by the Saint Gaudens design in the same year. While the 1907 Liberty Head is not among the rarest dates in the series, it remains a popular coin among collectors due to its historical value and gold content. The MS-61 grade offers an opportunity for collectors to acquire a well-preserved example without the premium of higher-grade specimens.
